Different category thumbnail pictures for different languages

Good day,
I tried the solution here https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/category-thumbnail-image/ to disable the sync between the category thumbnail pictures (to be able to set different pictures for different languages) but it didn’t work. What is the right solution nowadays?

The sync of product pictures I disable with wpml-config.xml in polylang folder with:
