I have spent over an hour trying to find a solution for this. When someone purchases a digital product from my site, they get sent the default completed order email which says “Your order has shipped” in the subject line. I believe this is super confusing for customers, and I’d like to change it to something else for the digital products, but keep it as is for physical products. I’d prefer a plugin solution as I am not a strong developer and not very comfortable with code.

  • I have this same problem. Woocommerce sends out emails for new order, processing order. This does not make any sense for digital o virtual orders where someone is downloading a product or buying tickets. There is a completed order email but that does not get triggered. I disabled processing order and simply completed an order upon payment (using a separate plugin). but completed order email does not get send. The new order comes to the admin. I have customized the email verbiage, to send new order to admin and completed order to customer. Since the completed orders did not go, how do I trigger that manually. Under order actions – only new order is there to resend. This is a major gap in woocommerce for digital goods. Please advice if there is another plugin or how I can resend the completed order emails to each customer, since they did not get send by the system.

    Hi there @orangjul ??

Different “completed order” text for digital/physical products

Thanks for reaching out. Happy to help you with this!

I recommend checking out AutomateWoo. With it, you can disable the WooCommerce core email notifications you no longer require, and replace them with AutomateWoo workflows.

AutomateWoo allows for creating, and sending out, bespoke emails, having a completely custom content and wording for digital goods, separate from those for physical goods.

Below is a screenshot showcasing a workflow I created, for sending out emails when a customer places an order for digital goods at my store:

The trigger I have set is for when an order is created, and the rule for when a product is in the Digital product category. With that, a custom email is ready to be sent out to the customer.

There are plenty of presents to choose from, for different typical scenarios, and customize further, which is a great time saver. Linked here is the Getting Started guide for AutomateWoo.

Feel free to give it a try! We have a?30-day refund policy?on all our extensions, so you can try it risk-free and see for yourself how useful it can be.
If for any reason you are not happy with it, simply let us know within 30 days of your purchase, and we’ll refund 100% of your money.

I trust that points you in the right direction, but if you have more questions, let us know. We’re happy to help!
