The performance Lab plugin creates different dimensions of webp image groups for a single image. That is significantly increased my site size (single jpeg size 200kb – optimized webp image group size 3Mb).

    FTP Screenshot

Is there any way to use the single image without creating different resolutions, or reducing the image group size. is there any way to remove these images

It will be a great help if someone gives me a solution.

    Hi @samwp1,

Thanks for reaching out. WordPress by default generates different image dimensions for all images uploads. If you’re using the Performance Lab plugin there will be WebP versions for all the sub sized variations used by WordPress.

If you’re not looking to have image variations generated, there are some third party plugins that can used to provide this functionality, although sub sized images can help improve performance.

You can also use a Performance Lab filter, webp_uploads_image_sizes_with_additional_mime_type_support, to customize WebP image sizes. You’ll find out more on this in a previous support topic.

With regards the increase in your image file size from a single JPEG, if the WebP version of the original image or sub images is not smaller than the JPEG version then the plugin won’t create a WebP version.

Hopefully the above is of use. Let us know if you have any questions on this.
