Different size Gallery cover thumbnail

I’m curious if there is a built in way to create different size gallery cover (Preview Image) thumbnail sizes, but keep the regular thumbnails per the options settings?

I know I could probably upload a duplicate image, then go to manage galary settings and “create new thumbnail” – then select that as my preview and exclude it from the gallery portion – but am curious if there’s an easier way.
