• I’m currently building a website which will act as a community directory for my local government area. It aims to serve both locals and visitors to the region with a wide range of topics, such as what to do, where to stay, local retail specials etc.

I’d like to encourage community contribution, as this will help the website organically grow. With this in mind, I don’t think that being required to have a user name and password is viable – the general public should be able to add entries into the directory, with entries being subject to admin moderation before publishing, thus avoiding spam.

In the past I have used WordPress for many basic websites as a CMS. This project is a little more involved. Is what I’m proposing possible? Any suggestions on where to begin with this (plugins, resources, etc)?
