    Hello,
when somebody pastes a remote image URL into the editor, it automatically gets embedded. I want to avoid any embedding of external content. Is it possible to deactivate this?

After copying and pasting image URL, you can press Ctrl+Z to only leave the URL. This is also WordPress TinyMCE editor function, we have no affection and option here. You should find solution for WordPress classic TinyMCE editor, it’ll work for forum editor too. wpForo doesn’t have direct affection to WordPress classic editor lib, so the solution cannot be from wpForo side.

The thing is, I want to get rid of any form of embedding because this can be problematic in terms of GDPR. With the normal settings, are users also able to embed other content like Youtube videos if they add the necessary tags in the text editor?

wpForo doesn’t embed 3rd party content like Youtube or others. Only image URL is allowed to embed. We’ll add options in future releases to disable image and URL embedding features.

Sorry to bother you but is there already a timeline for this?

In the “Tools” tab there is a setting called “Post Content” which contains the following text:

embed(src width height name pluginspage type wmode allowFullScreen allowScriptAccess flashVars),

Can’t I change this to stop embedding images?

I’m really sorry but we have not found any solution for disabling auto-embedding images in TinyMCE, there will not be any option to prevent it, because this is a dynamic JavaScript function, which comes from WordPress core or from TinyMCE. I’d suggest ask this question in WordPress forum or in the Classic Editor plugin support area.

The only solution we can provide is stripping all images from content and replacing those to a simple image URL.

    How can I do that?
