You may have another plugin installed that’s affecting this. Do you definitely have the whole ‘Lockdown’ module enabled?

I’ve got the same issue, can’t edit files via appearance -> editor as I get message like “Seriously stop doing what your’re doing… You’ve got 9 attempts left…”. It’s annoying as I have to disable the plugin to save the file and then switch it back on…

Mike, these aren’t the same issues – they’re opposite. Under Lockdown, uncheck the box to disable file editing, then you can edit the files.

Thanks for your reply, I’ve just checked and “Disable File Editing” is unchecked – it helped when I disabled the whole lockdown feature.

Are there any specific entries in the Audit Trail when you try this? If not, can you enable the audit trail and replicate it and see what gets put in the audit

Yeah actually two entries are added to the Shield section:

    transgression counter started:
Auto Black List transgression counter was started for visitor at IP address…

    firewall block:
Page parameter failed firewall check. The offending parameter was “newcontent” with a value of…
…Firewall Trigger: Field Truncation. Firewall Block Response: Visitor connection was killed with wp_die() and a message.

Okay, so the problem is the file editing setting, it’s the firewall. It’s blocking something in the content. Uncheck the “Field Truncation” option in the firewall and you’ll be able to edit the files as you need.

    Thanks, that worked!

thanks for replying Paul and sorry for delay in reply. It must be another plugin affecting it, as I’ve got this installed on a number of other sites and it’s working perfectly.

    thanks so much

@i_mike, Glad you got it working.

@carlyblack – this is likely affected by another security plugin, but if you want to find the issue, best to disable a plugin at a time until you find the culprit. It could also be in the theme.
