Specifically with this image:

The original image is 4267×2362 pixels — when I upload it to WP it goes down to 1200×665 pixels.

I’ve tried:
-Several plug-ins to disable the image compression
-Adding “add_filter(‘jpeg_quality’, function($arg){return 100;});” to functions.php
-Clearing my cache after the above

Not sure what else I can do…someone please help!

I think you are facing image resize issue here not compression. By default, when you upload an image, WordPress creates three versions of the image – Thumbnail, Medium and Large. You can change these sizes, in Administration >> Settings >> Media.

I think its caused by over size of your images. You can edit your image through image menu. Choose the match size, and view the results, its the images quality changed or not.

Hi everyone and thank you for your responses!
@t-p I’ve already tried this however I’m not entirely sure if I’m putting it in the right place as I’m also using a child theme..
@mymizan I’ve tried this too and set everything to 0 however I don’t think it’s this since I have set the image to Medium and Large as well as Full and it’s still always pixelated
@indoteguh I’ve also tried this but I need my images larger than what it is when it’s finished uploading…if I try to make it larger it doesn’t work.

@sissyyee Better late than never. I just saw your post and I created a plugin that deactivates the default image compression. You can find that plugin via https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/smntcs-deactivate-image-compression/. ??

@nielslange your plugin does not work for my woocommerce product images.
@sathesh95 yours too.

the only thing that has worked so far for me is setting the image size “large” in UX-builder of the home page. but since I can’t use UX-builder on the shop page of woocommerce it doesn’t apply on those images…

There is no way that WordPress will reduce size of image on upload by himself, defensively there is some function or plugin to do that. Did you check function.php file for custom function or maybe check plugins for that?
