Disable pop-up browser link?

Hi! Is there a way to disable the pop-up in the category view? Also, is there a way to modify the category view in such a way that there’s a link which will open the pfd in the browser – and a download button next to that link.

I know I can achieve this by uploading the pdfs seperately, linking them, and then adding the single file download button through the download manager. But I’d like a more.. elegant.. solution.

I am fairly comfortable working in my php files, although I do not have much coding experience.

Any ideas? Thanks!
