Disable Prepopulated Shipping Address

So you still want the customer to have the option to select a shipping address (since they’re using the Express Checkout buttons) but you don’t want the address to be populated with anything when the PayPal popup launches?

If so, that is not possible. PayPal will always pre-select the customer’s default shipping address if the PayPal popup isn’t launched with an address already entered on the checkout page.

The article you linked to is describing the ability for PayPal to allow the customer to select a shipping address other than their default, which this plugin already does.

So, given my situation described in my 1st post, how would you suggest I still put paypal buttons in product/cart page without the risk of customer shipping to default prepopulated address?

You can never de-risk the scenario where a customer selects the wrong address since it’s the customer’s responsibility to select the shipping address where they want to receive the item(s).

When you offer PayPal on the product and cart pages, the plugin has to get the shipping address info from somewhere, which means the PayPal wallet must supply it. That means there must exist an option where the customer can select the shipping address.

I’d recommend including a message in your order email that goes out to customers asking them to double-check the shipping address associated with their order. That could cut down on customer’s making the wrong address selection.
