Is there a way (or plugin) that essentially disables the ability to edit any files associated with a theme in the WP admin area?

  • Have a look at some of the role management plugins. Another option might be to remove write permissions on the wp-content/themes folder. That way, no theme file can be edited by anyone via the Admin interface.

Changing the permissions i’d think is the easiest solution, if you do edits over the FTP, then it won’t matter..

    644 should work..

    Hi,

You can disable this option via editing theme-editor.php file from wp-admin folder…

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

Which would mean editting a core WordPress file, the permissions changes won’t effect any WordPress core files.

    Hi,

Permissions change will affect all the theme and he can not upload new theme also…but he only wants to disable edit option of the uploaded theme..

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

If this user is using FTP it won’t matter what permissions are on the theme folder…

You can set permissions on the individual theme folder, it doesn’t have to be the themes folder itself.

but he only wants to disable edit option of the uploaded theme..

Is there a way (or plugin) that essentially disables the ability to edit any files associated with a theme in the WP admin area?

He didn’t specifically say the active theme, just ‘a’ theme..

So the answer is yes, via core edit (as you proposed) or a permissions changes to a given theme’s folder (as i propose)…

We are uploading via FTP, so the permissions route seems the easiest way to go. I will just change the permissions on the /wp-content/theme folder.

    Thanks!

Ok, I am good with a core edit to disable the theme/plugin editors, but what line number do you change to disable this? or is it as simple as renaming the file?
