    Hello,

I waould like to know if it is possible to disable widgets for mobile devices.

There are some plugins wich say to do this, but they are only adding classes to a widget. Those classes just hide the widget by “display: none;” on mbile devices, which means that the widget is still physically exisitng when the site is loaded on a smartphone/tablet.

Normally I work with Joomla and there is a component called “chameleon” which dynamically deactivates modules (widgets) on mobile.

Does this plugin do this as well?

Because I dislike theme swithcing for my themes are responsive mobile first, so there is no need to have multiple themes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,

    Hi Rob,

The Pro version of the plugin (Mobile Smart Pro – https://codecanyon.net/item/mobile-smart-pro/3671362) properly disables selected widgets on a mobile device – this doesn’t just hide it, but properly prevents it from displaying.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

    Thanks for the answer ??

But this plugin doesn’t touch widgets, right?

Disabling plugins. Does that mean that the Webmaster can decide to hide a widget on mobile devices in the widget’s adim interface?

    a. The free Mobile Smart plugin doesn’t do anything with the widgets, that’s right. It’s only the Mobile Smart Pro plugin that does that.

    b. It acts in a similar way to the Widget Logic plugin – there is a check box on the Appearance -> Widgets screen on each widget added to a sidebar, which allows you to choose whether to display it on a mobile device.

I just bought the pro version of the plugin and installed it

The option in the widget admin interface “show widget on mobile device” is the question:

When I disable this option will it be deactivated for smartphones and tablets or for smartphones only?

It will be deactivated for whatever your current switching options are:

    i.e.
    1. It will always deactivate for smartphones
    2. If you have switch for tablets enabled, it will deactivate for tablets

so the switvhing has not only to do with “switching templates”?

That’s true – it is related to what the plugin views as a mobile device also. Good point – I should make this clearer in the documentation.

    Allright.

because I have “just” one Theme whhich is respnsive mobile first ??

So I just ignored all the switching options ??

Aha ok, that’s good to know that people are using the plugin in this way also.

So you can tick the ‘switch for tablets’ box, but that won’t turn on theme switching, but it will treat tablets as mobile devices. I should perhaps change how this is displayed in the admin.

When I may make a propossition, I would change the option in the widget admin

Instead of just offering “show widget on mobile device”, I would change that in “show widget in smartphone” and “show widget on tablets”

My clients are all totally lost when it comes to websites and internet. They have no clue and are mostly quite nervous and even a bit frightened when they start working with sytsems like Joomla or WordPress.

They have knowledge of their business ??

And the widget part is very important because a Facebook or Twitter fedd should not be on a smartphone because it steals loading time.

And other widget sshould not be on a tablet but just on a smartphone,

So when you would add the options in the way I describes, it would be more flexible and, very important, easy to use for unexperienced webmasters ??

I think that’s a great idea – thank you for proposing this feature.

I’m due to spend some time on the free plugin here in the next month, so when I do, I’ll work on that too.

    Best regards,

That would be great and thank you for considering my proposition
