Disable ZOOM functionality with gold cart

I want to disable the ability to ZOOM in on any product, and just have the thumbnail feature change the image on the page.

My reasoning is because when you click on the image you actually get sent via href to the .JPG itself and have to click the back button to get back to the product page. ESC doesnt even exit it either.
