I have been trying to improve my website’s accessibility but the we accessibility plugin has disabled some features stating my theme catch-box (free) is accessibility-ready. However it is not as it uses read more links which are not recommended without further description. How can I resolve this so I can use the feature I need?

What’s the theme you’re using? If it’s hosted at www.ads-software.com, but uses read more links without additional description, then the issue needs to be raised with the theme; otherwise the theme will need to be suspended.

If it’s *not* a www.ads-software.com theme, then you should raise the issue with the theme developer, and flag that the theme doesn’t meet the accessibility-ready standards, and should either not use the tag or fix the issues.

the catch-box team have replied with “Reading more links without additional description is not an accessibility issue because default WordPress themes also have no description on read more links. as it is accepted as accessibility-ready.”

is there anyway to override it so I can utilise your plugin to fix the issue?

If I used their theme to make a child theme would this remove the accessibility ready tag and allow me to use your plugin to fix the issue?

or is there an easier way at all to allow me to use your plugin?

I was able to remove the accessibility ready tag which enabled your plugin. However disappointingly when I used it to add title to read more tags it actually just made the read more links text. Do you know why this may have happened?

This theme received the accessibility-ready tag 8 years ago; it’s probably changed significantly since then. I’ll take a look at the theme.

The argument from the theme developer is specious, however; claiming that this is not an accessibility issue because other themes have the same issue is not grounds for allowing an issue.

But I also just installed the theme and checked it, and the ‘Continue Reading’ link does have accessible naming; can you provide me with more detail about exactly what you’re looking at? A link would be helpful.

the page with the issue is

I think it is mainly my inexperience but there are so many references to more text etc I just don’t know what to modify. I understand if you cannot help as it may be complex. Thank you

Ok, it looks like you’re rendering the query loop inside a page, rather than using a posts archive template. So that’s not really a problem with the theme; it’s coming from WordPress core. The way the ‘read more’ is expressed in that block has changed a few times, and it’s extremely difficult to filter because of the way blocks are done.

If you’re going to use the Query Loop block, I recommend removing the ‘read more’ link and having the post title linked, instead. You can link the post title by clicking it, going to the block options in the sidebar panel, and choosing ‘Make title a link’.
