DISABLED PLUGIN, HOW TO BE INFORMED ? It can be because of a server error or any other problem, sometimes you don’t see and you don’t know ! So is there a way to get an Email when there is ANY problem with a plugin on your website ? It happens often enough to deserve a solution. Thank you.

  • There’s an automatic email notification for the fatal error where you’ll know the culprit plugin.

    Does this help?

Thank you but no. Many times a plugin can be disabled without being informed and when managing too many websites it can be a problem. A good solution would be a plugin that check a list of plugin that is supposed to be enabled on your website and inform you if they are not. Any idea ? Thanks again.

It sounds like your hosting provider has disabled PHP’s mail() function, which WordPress uses to send you email notifications and is also used by contact form plugins and more.

This is a common safeguard employed by hosting providers when they suspect that another customer on the same server is sending spam emails directly from the server.

Another alternative is that PHP’s mail() function is still active, but spammer activity from the server has already caused any email sent from it to be blocklisted. This would result in the emails being sent but never received by any email address with basic anti-spam capabilities.

You can check this by leaving a comment on your site and checking if you receive an email. Another alternative would be to use the Health Check plugin and send yourself a test email from the plugin’s Tools tab to see if it works.

If you didn’t receive a test email, you could try using an SMTP plugin to configure your WordPress site to use your email’s outgoing mail server instead of PHP’s mail() function. And, if the chosen SMTP plugin doesn’t work either, I recommend reaching out to their support.

Thank you, but this is not the question and my hosting did not disable anything, I am on dedicated severs and have 20 years wordpress experience. Please people instead of trying to find a useless solution, focus on what is asked and try to understand: IT HAPPENS MORE THAN often that for any reason a plugin is deactivated without us knowing. It would not be difficult to send an Email EVERYTIME a plugin is disabled without anyone visiting the admin, right ? Thank you so much again !

There are only 4 ways a plugin can be deactivated without you deactivating it yourself:

    1. An automated plugin update failed. If that happens, you’ll be sent an email. If you did not receive the email, see my reply above.
    2. Someone else with admin access to your site deactivated it. Install an audit log plugin to find out who.
    3. Someone else with access to your server renamed the specific plugin’s directory. Check your server logs to find out who.
    4. Malware. Carefully follow?this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of?the recommended security measures?and?start backing up your site.

Sorry but you are wrong again, but do not worry, I do not blame you for repeating what you have been told. In case of server problem (overload, etc…) or for any reason if wordpress cannot load the plugin files, it will be deactivated and I have no way to know until I check. This reason and many others can deactivate plugins without us being informed.

So I am still waiting for a correct reply to my first question, hopefully someone knows. I know the theory that you have explained here, but this is wrong to think that these are not the only reasons a plugin can be deactivated. And no, the solution is not to change the server for a more powerful one, because it can happen on any server in case of attack of any other reason for high ressources use. Sorry that it is not found in your theory book ?? Thanks again anyway.

Ok, it sounds like you know what you’re doing. Please let us know what you find out. ??
