  • we are facing the below issue
Automatic smushing has been disabled temporarily due to an error. Operation timed out after 20000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received
    Any help will highly appreciated.

Same problem here. I always get: “Automatic smushing has been disabled temporarily due to an error. Operation timed out after 20000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received”.

Me too. Mine’s been down for a very long time. I need to know if it will be fixed or if I should just delete it. I have tested it more than once with all other plugins deactivated and no luck.

I should add that I cannot smush any single image either – it returns the same error notification about “bulk smushing” as Andre noted above.

Also having this issue. Been having for days and its causing my test site to drag awfully – I keep getting error timeouts and more, and it seems to always be the Smush It plugin.

Also in Settings>Media I am getting this:

    WP Smush.it

Use Smush.it on upload? Temporarily Disabled Until……

    Hi all,

The problem is caused by the Yahoo API service, not the plugin. The timeout of 20 sec. is simply too short. I’ve been using “WP smush.it” successfully for the past 6 months.

    I’ve posted my solution here:

Thank you for this solution which works perfectly. I don’t understand why I didn’t think before ??

I used to love this plug-in, but once that weird error started happening several months ago, I gave up. And I just tried the tweak suggested here, but I can’t sit and wait 3 minutes for every image to crank through, let alone 3 minutes for a post to go up when usually we post and then go and edit the post live etc. (I did set it for 60 seconds, by the way, and it kept crashing my WP admin all together).

This was a great plug-in. Please fix it.

The next release will have an option to set the timeout higher as well as some more forgiving errors when an image can’t be smushed.

That said, most of the speed bottleneck comes from the Smush.it servers. There’s nothing we can do about that, unfortunately.

Thanks for adding the timeout as a setting, this way I can automatically update your plugin again.

Yahoo’s smushit servers are down, you can check status here: https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/smushit.com.html

This can completely prevent images upload, slows down dashboard etc… so disabling plugin is the only option until yahoo resolve the problem…

Thanks for the info ! I was thinking I messed up something by updating the plugin…

https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/ is available at the moment at least if someone was willing to upload some images.

Hey all, pushed a quick fix to remove that debug code. Should fix at least the glaring error for now. We’re still working on a major rewrite though for release soon.

Thanks for your patience during the transition to the WPMU DEV team!

Did the upodate. Tried to smush a picture… after a while (at least one minute), it just stopped. I can’t smush any picture, and no error showing up.

Is it still a problem with smushit servers ?
