Disabling the tag line?

Hello everyone. I currently installed a new theme for my WordPress website and was wondering if it is at all possible to disable the tagline? I edited the images that came with the theme to fit my needs but there seems to be a style which is causing the tagline, although blank, to display an underscore or “overscore”. I think that the text for this field was stylized to have a solid line running across the top of the text and ends up displaying an overscore for one character’s span even if the tagline box is left empty int he WordPress backend.
