Disabling the virtual WordPress cron job

Cron jobs can perform differing tasks such as backing up your site etc. Disabling any of these would indeed speed up the site, but it is up to you if you deem the cron job to be necessary.

Always remember that you still need an alternative. For this you need to set up a suitable system cron at the hosting. This is important to let automatisms in WordPress continue to run. And a system cron does not affect the speed of the page.
