I am using a staging plugin to create and update my client’s new website. I have had a number of editing and login/access issues on this site so I put Wordfence in learning mode on both the staging and production sites which resolved these issues. I’m now ready to push the staging site to live. I’m wondering if I should deactivate Wordfence on?both the production and staging sites before I start the push process to avoid and issues? Or would this cause issues in itself doing this? I would then re-active Wordfence once the push process is completed. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi @nickyr,

You can typically leave Wordfence and the Wordfence firewall activated when pushing the site to live, but you will want to ensure you’ve disabled the firewall optimization temporarily, as outlined here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/#migrate-with-wordfence

Optimization can be removed from within the plugin at?Wordfence > Firewall > Advanced Firewall Options?by clicking the “REMOVE EXTENDED PROTECTION” button.

Once the site has been pushed to live, you can optimize the firewall again at Wordfence > Firewall > Advanced Firewall Options by clicking the “OPTIMIZE THE WORDFENCE FIREWALL” button.

Let us know how it goes!

    Thanks,
    Margaret

    Hi @wfmargaret

Thank you very much for your reply and instructions. Do I need to disable the?firewall optimization?temporarily on both the staging and production sites prior to migration?

    Many thanks ??

    Hi @nickyr,

The firewall optimization uses a static path via auto_prepend_file. Since this path would change between the staging and live site, I recommend disabling the firewall optimization temporarily on both when pushing the site to live to ensure any differences in the path don’t cause errors.

    Thanks,
    Margaret
