disappearing language files after upgrade

It seems the plugin removes all files from the languages directory upon upgrade. I have a half ready translation file for Hebrew, but the po file is gone and the mo file was replaced by the file in the upgrade.
I’m fine with the mo file being overwritten, but can you avoid deleting existing po files?
