• I developed a project based on UM Plugin.
It works fine at my localhost.
But when I upload it to my web server, it stops to work.
First, when I try to login as an admin, it gives me a forbidden message, and after that, I cannot acces nothing else at the domain.
    All is timed out.
So I made a fresh installationto direct to my web server.
Then, when I try to make a new subscription, same thing again.
It seems that the plugin is somehow blocking me after the forbidden message.
Apparently, according to some answers given by the developers, this plugin work better on a VPS.
But that is not written in the description of the plugin.
I spent almost one month putting together a project locally to find that the plugin does not work well on a shared server.
    What anger!

Were you trying to run a membership site on a shared host with shared memory? That could be the problem as shared memory is not really a fixed amount of memory it could be really small memory that does not let you run a membership site. It’s a fault of the webhost and not UM. You said it works on localhost.

We could offer help always if you opened a support topic. Here is a link to our support forum:

    On reply to your e-mail.

Like you often do, as I saw at others replies, you are just trying to blame anything else but not your plugin.
    Ok, good job!
I beg your pardon if I was unfair, as you accused me.
I beg your pardon for loosing almost one month trying to use your FREE plugin.
I beg your pardon for not wait by your FREE support.
But the final and irrevocable truth is that your plugin don’t works fine at a shared host.

    Just for your information.
The word “FREE” does not means you can do anything you want and reply anyway you wish just because you are not charging for this.
    And one more thing.
I run a lot of websites with a lot of applications.
I always use CMS, like Joomla! and WordPress, to do it so.
I also use many extensions and plugins, and I never had any problem with none of them.
    So I ask you:
Is the problem really with my host, that never gave me any trouble, or is the problem with your plugin, that has a lot of complaints?

    Good Lucky

The plugin is installed on over 10,000 sites with the vast majority of users using Ultimate Member on shared hosting with no issue.

I replied to your topic on forum but have not heard back yet, instead you came here and wrote a review.

Ultimate Member will work fine on shared hosting but there may be a particular config that your host has done that has created am issue with UM.

If you were to reply to the topic on forum so we can resolve this then we are happy to do so but without seeing the test site we can not debug this and find a solution.

If you want to move on from Ultimate Member and use another plugin that is of course your decision but if you want to continue using Ultimate Member, please reply to the topic you started on forum so we can look into this for you.

Please let us know how you would like to proceeed.

    Thank you

    claudio65,

I have been investigating membership plugins for my daughter’s website for quite awhile now just to be sure she and her friends will have the privacy I wish for them to have. It seems these membership plugins have a lot of wrinkles in them and each requires a good deal of set-up to get them working just so. Which makes sense since each website is different and each user has his or her own custom expectation for implementation. In other words membership plugins are not your typical plugin and play WordPress add-on I am sure you are used to using.

In a recent WordPress install, I remember there being a place where I could assign memory up to a certain amount, so it may be worth your time to follow the suggestion and take a look at your settings on the host end of things. Especially after all the time you have already spent, as I do not think you are going to find a better “free” alternative in the WP ecosystem. I don’t know if this comes into play, but I have seen a number of posts where caching plugins mess things up as well.

    A few more things…

I run a lot of websites too and I learn many new things each day and doubt I will ever know all there is to know.

And actually, FREE does kind of mean the developers can choose how and when they support their free product. When was the last time you worked for months for free for people you have never met?

Most people in this world expect to get paid for the work they do and anyone willing to do ANYTHING for ANYONE for free should be addressed with gratitude and not attitude.
