Disappointing overhaul of plugin’s purpose

  • I used to recommend this plugin to a lot of folks, back when it was a simple avatar plugin. It did one thing really well, and added a much-requested feature that is missing from WordPress core.

    Unfortunately, the new plugin owner completely changed the entire purpose and function of the plugin, with no warning or notice to its 400,000+ active users (at the time of the switch).

    It added an entirely new admin interface, and went from being a simple avatar plugin to a a full-fledged membership solution. It changed its name to use that of its premium offering, and is clearly making a concerted push to get people to purchase the premium version.

    While they may not have broken any official rules, and this is a completely free plugin, I can no longer recommend it. I don’t trust the developer’s intentions moving forward.
