• I bought the paid version and have had a lot of trouble with the plugin. We accept credit cards and checks. Both have been a huge headache.

Didn’t realize that “subscriptions” automatically renew with no notice, so had to cancel all our credit card customers’ accounts and recreate them. This is obviously a mess in our records, and an irritation to our customers.

Check orders get duplicated and set to successful automatically and duplicate every month. I was not able to get help with this from their paid support. We are going to have to migrate to a different platform, which is going to be very painful.

I have other usability issues with the plugin. It was clearly originally created with a rather limited feature set without extensibility in mind, and a lot of functionality hacked on, requiring manually editing the code in plugins, not being able to set multiple payment options as active at the same time, bizarre terminology and seemingly redundant settings… Doesn’t use standard WP interface conventions for member list, order list, etc, affecting usability. Uses non-HTTPS resources, breaking the green security indicator. Probably more.

Hi, SwingGraphics. Sorry you’ve had so many issues with the plugin. We will continue to support you in our member forums. I think you ran into a few issues we’ve had with our Pay by Check addons playing nice with our other addons. We made a lot of effort early this year to get those addons working nicer together. I think somewhat motivated by your threads. I hope things run more smoothly for you going forward.

    > It was clearly originally created with a rather limited feature set without extensibility in mind

I can see how you feel this way when things aren’t working out for you. But I do have to say that I believe we keep extensibility in mind more than other membership plugins. That said, the code base is old in parts and some things are hackier than we’d like.

    > requiring manually editing the code in plugins

Let us know when you feel you have to do this, so we can create hooks/filters to allow you to customize things without editing the core plugin or addons. If you are talking about custom code already that needs to be changed, then yes that happens. We expect some amount of programming on sites that can’t use our plugin or addons out of the box.

    > not being able to set multiple payment options as active at the same time

When we released a few years back, this was a feature rather than a bug. People wanted a streamlined checkout process for the one gateway they liked most. For most people using the one main gateway + our Add PayPal Express addon is adequate for gateway options. Allowing for other combinations is difficult now. Better support for multiple gateways is something that’s on our roadmap, but a rather tricky issue that will take a while to work out.

This is usually by choice vs being lazy or ignorant. Using standard interfaces is nice, but it can be a pain when those “standard” interfaces get updated in WP updates. Using our own interfaces in the settings/etc gives us more flexibility to make sure they work for our needs and also protects us from rework associated with WP updates.

If there is a specific interface/feature you find missing, let us know somewhere and we’ll add it to the pipeline to discuss.

Let us know where you’ve found this and we’ll fix it.
