discount codes; adding members manually

I need to create discount codes that offer a percentage off or a certain dollar discount, such as save 50% or $10. Can this not be done with your plug-in? If not, are there any add-ons, plug-ins, etc. I can use to achieve this?
Also, if someone pays me for memberships outside of the web site, what is the best way to add them manually?
