    Is there a way to moderate discussion/comments the first time a user comments and then allow them to comment un-moderated after their first approval?

    That’s what the Comment author must have a previously approved comment setting in Administration > Settings > Discussion is supposed to do.

    OK, wasn’t sure. So do I have both

    • An administrator must always approve the comment
    • Comment author must have a previously approved comment

    checked?

    I would think you wanted this unchecked
