• For the past few months, my disk space has stayed around 31%. About a week ago it started increasing to 50% and would have continued if I hadn’t stopped it and restored a back up to my site. Now every day the % is rising and I can’t seem to figure out why. My site is self managed/hosted. I’ve checked through cron jobs and events and don’t see any issues there.

How can I find out what’s causing the disk space to increase? I’m not looking to upgrade my disk storage, just find out why its increasing and stop that increase from occurring.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Do you have debugging enabled in your project? If yes, the debug.log, which is written by WordPress then, could have extremely many entries. Look via FTP in the wp-content directory, if such a file is there. If so, the quick solution would be to disable debugging.

If it’s not there, any other log file written by a plugin you are using could also be there. You would have to use FTP or another tool available in your hosting to see what large directories are. If there is an unusually large one, take a closer look.

Also a reason could be images in the wp-content/uploads/ directory. If new ones are constantly being created, a plugin you are using could be to blame. If you have any image optimization like Imagify, deactivate it for a few days.

Do you have multiple backup plugins installed by chance? Sometimes they don’t correctly exclude each other’s files and will end up backing up each other’s backups, leading to a loop where each backup gets progressively bigger over time at a slow but exponential rate.

Aside from that, your web host might have a tool somewhere (like “Disk Usage”) that will let you see the breakdown of your storage space. You could also contact them for support and have them check it manually.
