    Hi Charles,

    Thanks for using Ignite!

In the WordPress admin, visit the Posts > Categories menu, and then click on one of the categories there. On the next page, you’ll see an input where you can enter a description for the category.

Let me know how that works for you and I can help debug further if needed.

    Hi Ben,

I guess I wasn’t very clear about what I was hoping to achieve… sorry ??

I did add descriptions to categories in the box provided… but as far as I can tell no one can see those descriptions except for me in my own Dashboard > Posts > Categories menu.

I created a new User (Role: Author) for myself in which I could create a Post and select a Category from the dropdown list… however, the only info displayed in that dropdown list is the Category name without a description.

My goal was to use the Category descriptions as a ‘tip’ or a ‘guide’ that would help Users select the proper Category for their Posts.

Clear as mud ?? Is this even possible ?? Thank you for help.

I’m sorry this was my mistake. Ignite does not output the category descriptions, so I’ve put together a child theme you can use:

    download here

You can upload the zip file through the Appearance menu like a regular theme, and once installed, you’ll see the descriptions show up on your archive pages.

Ben, I lost all previous formatting to my blog once I replaced my old child theme with your new one. Your new child theme does not provide any of the PLUS features I once had either. ??

I know that I rely heavily on you to help me get my blog formatted according to my my wishes (and I thank you)… but at some point I would really like to focus more on adding content than presentation. I am beginning to feel a little self-conscious about revealing my total ignorance here.

No, I’m sorry. This was another mistake on my part. I made the child theme for Ignite rather than Ignite Plus.

Here is a new child theme for Ignite Plus: download here

When you install this one, it will keep all of the PLUS options in the Customizer, and you will see the descriptions show up on the category pages.

I’m having the exact same problem as before… once I install the child them I lose all Ignite PLUS functionality. I’ve deleted the child them.

Phew okay let’s try this again. I’ve been sick the past few days, and I guess my mind hasn’t quite been the same.

I’ve tested out a new child theme, and this one is fully compatible with Ignite Plus: download here

Thanks for your patience and sorry again for the mistakes here.
