Display only if promotion exists

Is there a conditional statement that would allow me to display the promotion in a template file only if there is a published one in a certain promo category? I’ve tried <?php function_exists ()…and others but cant nail down the right way to do it.https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/promotion-slider/
