Hi, I’d like to change my list view page so that when there are no upcoming events, instead of displaying the message: ‘There are no upcoming events.’ the page loads the past events (e.g. /event/list/?eventDisplay=past).

Is this possible with a little tweak to the template files?

  • Hello @adsmar87,

Thank you for reaching out to us about this. I’m happy to help.

As you know, you can use shortcodes to accomplish showing past events but I think what you are wanting to accomplish might take a bit of extra software customization. And just to make sure you know, many of our shortcodes will require that you use our premium Events Calendar Pro plugin.

I think you might find the following knowledgebase articles helpful.

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/past-events/

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/crafting-custom-event-queries/

I am going to reach out to my teammates to see if there might be an easier way to show the past events in the manner that you would like. I will let you know what I find.

    Thank you so much,

    Chad

    Hi @adsmar87,

I spoke with a member of our development team and she reminded me of something that I didn’t event think of. Normally, if there’s no upcoming events the list view would show 3 past events under the Latest Past Events heading. Are you seeing this?

    Thank you so much,

    Chad

Hi Chad, thanks for the response.

No I’m not seeing that. I have tried to switch to a default theme and reinstall the plugin but no luck. From other websites I’ve seen, I think what your referring to is the ‘tribe-events-calendar-latest-past’ div but this is not being displayed on my Events page.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hi @adsmar87

    Thanks for your response.

Please provide the direct URL of your events archive page where the issue persists. I’d like to check it further on my end.

Could you also provide the version of the following? This will help me understand how your system is set up.

    • PHP
    • WordPress
    • The Events Calendar
    • Theme

    Hi @adsmar87

    Thanks for your response.

I tried replicating the issue using the Vantage theme, but it’s working as expected on my end.

    See- https://share.getcloudapp.com/kpuAPE6B

There could be a plugin/theme conflict on your end. Could you try running a conflict test??I suggest conducting these tests on a Staging Server.

If that doesn’t help, please also check if you have a server-side caching (Object cache, etc). Try to disable it for now and check if that makes a difference.

Let me know how it goes.
