• I currently have a blog that is mostly a collection of links. Curated articles and such. So for the most part each “post” is really just a link to the original article.

Long story short, I am trying to show which links people are clicking on the most. Sort of like a “Popular Posts” plugin, except those usually determine the popularity based on the pageviews or comments. I need to be able to show which links have been clicked on the most.

I know Google Analytics can track outgoing links, but I don’t have the slightest clue how I would tap into that data to display the most popular links, or if there is some other way to do this.

    Any ideas?

  • I don’t think this plugin exists.

You can do this in two ways either turn all external links to internal links which then direct to external links such as https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/goto-outbound-links-and-analytics/screenshots/ You then track the pageviews of those redirects to get traffic.

You can also use a javascript script to track outbound links as google analytics can do.

Turning this into a plugin is not trivial but should be possible if you have basic wordpress and PHP skills, otherwise you may need to ask a developer to produce a piece of code for you.
