• I am trying to make a widget that displays all my posts using a scroll bar in the widget area to replace the widget called “Recent Posts”.

I added a text widget to the list of widgets, gave it the title “Contents” and placed what I think is the short code [display-posts] in the text area and then saved it. When I viewed the home page or any of the posts there appeared a box titled Contents underneath which appeared [DISPLAY-POSTS] and nothing else.

What am I not doing, or what am I doing wrong.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @wrknight,

Can you try a code widget? Sometimes the shortcodes work better in those widget blocks, but not always.

Failing that, can you let us know what plugin you are using to generate the shortcode [display-posts]?

    Thanks!

    Kind Regards,
    Tim

I have run into another problem.

“Failed to connect to FTP Server musingsofamaverick.org:21”

I can’t install plugins, update or download themes as I don’t don’t have a username or password that works with FTP.

As background info, I migrated my website to new hardware, operating system (Ubuntu 20.04) latest versions of all LEMP stack software and wordpress. The site is up and running, but now requires FTP access to do anything and I don’t have that access.

The previous build did not have this problem.

I haven’t solved the first problem, but the FTP access problem was solved by adding

    define( ‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’ );

    to sp-config.php.

    Hi @wrknight,

Glad to hear that you’ve solved the FTP/update problem.

With regards to your other problem did you try what I suggested before?

After solving the FTP problem I installed the Display Posts widget which is currently at the bottom of the widget area and is displaying 10 posts. But like the Recent Posts above, it’s not doing what I want. What I really want is a block about 4 inches long that contains a list of all my blog posts (about 60) that you can scroll through. If I could modify the Recent Posts widget, by renaming it to Posts, increasing the number to include all posts on the site, limiting the size and adding a scroll bar to browse through all the titles, that would be terrific.

Alternatively, if I could style the Display Posts to do the same (sans bullets), that would work as well.

    Hi @wrknight,

If this is a query specifically about Display Posts, your query is best posted in their specific support forum.

There will be a team of people there much more familar with the plugin and better able to support you. I am unfortunately not familar with this plugin.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,
    Tim
