Display Related Posts by Title without Plugin?

I just tried the “Contextual Related Posts” plugin, and like I thought, it didn’t work as I’d hoped and return the correct related posts, even though it says it shows related posts by title.

I found a site that has code that appears to take it by tag, without a plugin, maybe this can be somehow edited to search by title rather than tag? https://andorkh.com/wordpress-related-posts-without-plugin/

Is this even possible? Seems like a little different code of telling it to search by “title” or permalink rather than tags would work?

Still not sure what to do. I’ve exhausted all options. Anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction?

Why not just assign tags or categories to those posts based on the title? Then it’s straightforward to display as you want.

Thanks WPyogi, is there a way to maybe automatically assign tags to each post based on the file name?

It would take a long time to give each individual post a tag, but I like where your going with this and your idea. ??

I haven’t found any plugins that do this yet. Do I have to go in and manually give each existing post tags one by one? Or is there some trick maybe? Could also use the post slug maybe.

I’m not sure if you’ve solved your issue yet, but here’s a method that I’ve found to be usefull.

I use a plugin called Advanced Custom Fields. With it, you can create a relationship field for each post that allows you to add related posts manually when creating the post.

The field returns an array of post object with which youc an create a loop and display the related posts.
