Many online petitions feature the option to display the signatures. Dose Civist offer this and if so how do I configure it? Thanks.

    Hi Jjanthony,

Thank you very much for reaching out.

My name is Frank, and I am the Data Protection Officer in Civist.

Unfortunately, there is no way to show all signatures on a WordPress page or post automatically. You can only export them as CSV.

Civist users ask for this feature from time to time, and we once had plans to integrate it. However, making it available in a way that all the different data protection regulations worldwide, like the EU-GDPR or the CCPA, are addressed, seems to be impossible. One of our primary business goals is to build a highly secure system that respects the privacy of all clients and their supporters, and political data is very susceptible. A signature wall carries risks, in particular for the supporters privacy, and we decided not to implement this feature.

We know other tools provide this feature, but to be honest: It is a very questionable function.

We also recommend not to use tools that show supporters data publicly. Potential data leaks may cause unforeseeable problems, including penalty fees, bad press and loss of trust by your supporters.

Please let me know if you have any other question or if you need anything else. We are happy to help.

All the best and have a great week,
    Frank from Civist

Ps: Please use our Support Button in our plugin for faster response. Thank you very much.

Thank you so much for your reply! I get where you are coming from. Also I saw mention of a support button in another thread and looked for it but could not find it. I did look for documentation first as well but didn’t see anything. Thanks again but client wants names similar to how change org has done in the past. I will mention GDPR.

    Hi Jjanthony,

    Thanks for your reply.

To mention the GDPR (or other relevant data protection laws) is definitely a good move. It is also possible to use compliance with data protection in a positive way, e.g. “Just as we want to deal consciously with our earth, we deal consciously with your data. For reasons of data protection, we refrain from publicly displaying the names of all signatories.” Maybe, this can even raise the level of trust in your actions. Some of our clients hat good experiences with it.

The support button is barely visible, so it doesn’t distract you while working in Civist. The button’s text is “Civist Support”. It can be found generally in the lower right corner, as soon as you click on the “Civist” Plugin in your WordPress menu. Unfortunately, I can’t add a screenshot to my message. In case you can’t find no button, please reach out again. Thank you very much.

Have a great evening and all the best,
    Frank from Civist

I see it now. It’s small but still in plain site. Thanks for help! I’m marking it resolved now.
