Displaying a text widget manually

I would like to display a text widget manually in the same manner as archives, calendars, etc. can be fetched:

wp_get_archives();
or
get_calendar();

It seems that there is not a specific template tag to do this. Anyone know of a workaround to display the text widget on demand? I’ve searched google and the forums to no avail.
