Displaying Image Gallery

Hey guys and gals, I’ve been wanting to do something different about how galleries are displayed on my site. I like the over all functionality, once they click on the gallery and the carousel comes up. However, I hate the initial way that they are displayed:

Is there anyway to change them so it’s not this long list and more odd, the fact that they don’t act as they are told (2 per line).
