DISQUS on localhost – Best practice for “Shortname” on dev/staging?

    I’m working on the relaunch of a Website with active DISQUS comment system.

    The new site is developed on localhost. (.local domain)

    I activated the WordPress DISQUS plugin and added the “Disqus Shortname” from the Live-System. Everything works fine. Great so far.

    Problem: Unfortunately now all posts on my Development-Site are visible in the Live-Site DISQUS admin interface. That’s not what I want.

    Questions:

    1. Should I create a new “Shortname-DEV”, of is there another workaround?
    2. What’s the best “Shortname” practice for LIVE / DEV enviroments?
    3. Is there some kind of hidden “development” flag I missed?

    Suggestion:

    1. Add a checkbox “In Development Mode” to the WordPress DISQUS plugin.
    2. Idea: Add sites on “.local” domains automatically to “In Development Mode”.
    3. Add an FAQ entry for this. ??
