What to do in this situation ?

I looked for an e-mail address on your website Michael and didn’t find one. So to close, I consulted with the website management hosting firm listed on the bottom of your website. I use them as well for some sites, but I don’t want to put myself in the position of naming them and jeopardizing the services I receive from them.
I took the steps you gave me to Save at the Permalinks page. They just provided support via LiveChat.
Take care.
Gotcha. Regardless, I’m happy things worked out and I hope things stay smoother in the future here.
Is anyone willing to help me test 1.0.3? Specifically anyone that’s already on 1.0.2 and has it working? There are some rewrite rule logic changes that I’m worried about for people who got back to a good place, and I would love to have it confirmed that these changes do not break something again. If you have a dev site that you can try it on, I would appreciate you for forever.
Doing what I can to prevent more issues on a mass scale, if possible. Please let me know and I’ll link you to the appropriate zip file.
I’ll think about it because you tried to help me last week and no one else has answered. But I need to think about it and balance out my concerns for my clients’ privacy and my responsibility to keep their sites working. And my time.
I hope you make a lot of money on your great plugin, but honestly, I’m pulling away from it. If I can take time to help you this week, I’d love to know why it can’t be built into a WordPress theme that I pay extra for. I would pay extra for that theme.
My unsolicited opinion. Will let you know if I can help.
One of the biggest reasons why I am urging doing it on a dev site, something you can risk “breaking” for a moment without worrying about live ones. I do still understand hesitation as well, but I’m also hesitant about the update because of the changes that are very likely needed.
It’s not going to take a lot of time to test either, for what it’s worth. Upload the latest files, re-check urls and whatnot to make sure they are still working.
It’s a free plugin, so no money being made ??
It’s my professional belief that post types shouldn’t be tied directly to the theme as well. Chances are you’d want the created content available and on the site, regardless of what theme you’re using. We’re also never going to be able to make a theme that meets the needs of as many people as we’ve been able to meet the needs of as a plugin. Keeping it this way makes it much more portable and readily available.
Michael – I can’t help. I’m sorry. I do have development sites, but upon closer inspection, they do not all use your plugin.
Sara
Hi Michael,
I’m experiencing the same problem as other people here. Specifically moving from 0.95 to >=1.0.0 breaks my archives and single pages. I’ve now rolled back to 0.95 and everything is working.
I have a non-production version of the site, which I’m happy to mess around with so I can test to see if 1.0.3 fixes the broken issue?
Best,
GarethHi Michael
Client updated your plugin (10 1.0.2) on their site https://www.mydailycocktails.com/ and lost their custom post archive https://www.mydailycocktails.com/blog/ Resaving permalinks did not help so I have reverted back to 0.9.5 (as the site is live & the client didn’t take a backup before updating).
Sorry you are having problems, but this is a big potential issue in a plugin I’ve used on a lot of sites. Hope you resolve it soon. Until then I’m sticking with 0.9.5 and encouraging my clients to do the same…
Andy
No worries Sara.
gfte, if you went from 0.9.5 to 1.0.2 you won’t need to worry about potentially deleting the converted NEW settings, but if you went to 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, then you’ll want to because I had to change some array keys.
You can find what we have for 1.0.3 at the moment at https://github.com/WebDevStudios/custom-post-type-ui/archive/master.zip
Understandable AMCS/Andy, would love you helping on dev sites if possible as well, but I understand if you can’t at the moment as well.
Hi, Michael,
I just thought I toss in my experiences with the latest update. This is probably my favorite plugin. I include it in all of my sites. So I am glad volunteer any information that might be of help to you.
The first site where I experienced problems was on a public server. I had a custom post page where a featured image linked to another page with images and text. The featured image was coming through, but the second page wasn’t loading at all. Like most of the other people here, I simply did a permalink refresh, and all was back to normal.
Now, I am having problems loading images into a custom post page on a localhost staging site. Similar setup as the other site. The featured image loads fine, and is linked to another custom page with images and text. When I click on the featured image, it goes to the next page. The text all shows up fine, but the image doesn’t. It looks like the database information for the image is loading rather than the actual picture. Example:
32, , Dk, Dk Picture, , image/jpeg, https://localhost/wordtest.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/IMG_5480.jpg, 1028, 1544, Array
Honestly, this may be a coding error and not the plugin. That’s what I’m trying to determine at this time.
Thanks again for all of your hard work!
Michael –
I’m on 1.02 so I’m all set.bgoldman yeah, that’s likely going to be more of a coding issue for the template than our plugin. However, I do admit that’s a very weird error, especially if it was working fine before. I can’t think of any changes in our plugin that should cause that.
Michael,
I agree. I am also using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin, and when I changed the image field type from images to WYSIWYG, the photo loaded. So I think it might be an issue I am having with that plugin.
Noted, thanks for the update bgoldman ??
