• Hi,

I just wonder if here arent some people who would be interested in a Plugin that enables you to write posts to locations. If yes then come around and try my fresh released plugin.

It is my first plugin, and it is a beta beta version so try it out and leave some comments, suggestions, and other things you want to say.

    Thanks for your time.

  • yes. a thousand times yes.

this is very much what I have been looking for, thank you!

there’s been other similar attempts at a plugin like this but they seem to have fallen away from a lack of interest or time by their developers – perhaps you can keep the idea going?

A website that I want to develop will have a heavy use of google maps and photo blogging.

I have not tried your plugin yet but what I would like to see is google maps tied to tags. So if i have tag ‘main street’ an image of Main Street will appear or be linked or highlighted in someway.

this kind of linking content to maps to photos is what I’m looking for.

    thoughts?

This plugin didn’t work for me:
i installed it, set my key, wrote a post with a position marked on the map.
On the fromt end, the post didn’t contain any trace of any map…

I use WordPress 2.0.2, german language pack.

I like the idea and hope it will work fine in future ??

    Hi debrouille,
I think you forgot to add the map command into your theme. For example into your header.php teh call <?php ditu_map(“width”, “height”, “some css”); ?>. This will load the map and its markers.

    Hi debrouille,
I found a bug in my code. It should work now – download the new version at https://map.keikei.de/dev/ditu_plugin.zip. It would be great if you could tell if it works for you or not. Try to load the ditu_rss.php like https://www.yourwordpressdomain.com/ditu_rss.php and if this shows some xml it should work for you.

    Hi keikei,

you were right: i had a mistake in adding the map into my theme.
However: even with your new version, i can’t bring it to work:
    – i inserted, as you recommand, the map command in the header.php
–> it shows the google map on EACH page
–> it doesn’t center on the position i set for the test post with google map (it always shows the whole world)

I tried it with the WordPress default theme to be sure it hasn’t to do with my theme…

The XML-output works as you said (mywordpressdomain.com/MYBLOGPATH/ditu_rss.php).

FYI: as you can see, my WordPress is in a subdirectory and not on the web-root.

    hi debrouille,

    some answers:

it will always show at each page if you load it into the header.php.

the ditu_rss.php should be placed into your wordpress folder as you already did i guess (mywordpressdomain.com/MYBLOGPATH/ditu_rss.php) and not into the web-root.

did you download the latest update? Yesterday I found a small bug (stupid version control mess) in the plugin and released a new update since then other blogs are using it without any problems. Give it a try.

you can find installation instructions at https://map.keikei.de/instructions/

and here: https://map.keikei.de/dev/ditu_plugin.zip you can download the plugin.

What has ning got to do with this thread? How can it be used with WordPress?

Ning has a free app that allows you to add photos/messages to GoogleMaps. Sure it’s not WordPress, but why code this, when it’s already been done?!

    Cheers,
    NORTH

Unless you can integrate this free app from Ning with WordPress then WordPress bloggers are unlikely to find it desirable I guess.

I created a simple script that grabs lat;long data from a custom field for each post and then adds all those points to a Google Maps interface, with links back to the original post. It’s a pretty effective way to browse your archives for posts with a geographic focus.

    Here’s a description of what I did:

    Here’s the map in action:

    Hi justinsomnia,

thats also a nice way, perhaps we should mash them together?

    For what it’s worth, I’m using https://www.cyberhobo.net/downloads/geo-mashup-plugin/

It’s pretty nice. Check it out.

Looks good – perhaps a bit further developed, but I need to know the lat lng values. Which makes it a bit complicated…

Your instructions state how to get a map onto a page but I read nothing that tells me how to include the coordinates that I want mapped? Is the program psychic?
