Okay. I read several threads and docs and got it figured! Here’s what I did:
1. Deactivated the Loco Translate and the WooCommerce Better Compare plugins in the Divi Child theme. Made sure the plugins were not Network activated.
2. Opened wp-content/languages/loco/themes and wp-content/languages/loco/plugins and deleted all the .mo and .po files I created yesterday while trying to figure things out. Namely:
woocommerce-better-compare-en_US.mo
woocommerce-better-compare-en_US.po
woocommerce-en_US.mo
woocommerce-en_US.po
3. I had wrongly created language/loco/theme and /plugin folders and files in the Divi and Divi Child themes folders. I deleted all of them. So started clean.
4. Re-activated both plugins in the Divi Child theme.
5. From the Loco Translate Plugins menu, followed the WooCommerce document instructions at: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-localization/#section-6. Worked for changing the WooCommerce “Add to Cart” button!
6. From the Logo Translate Plugins menu for WooCommerce Better Compare, followed the “Beginner’s Guide – Loco” only did it for “plugin” and not for “theme”. https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/beginners
7. Didn’t work. Using English US, I had wrongly selected and edited “template” yesterday, so I had to add back in to the template the “Add to Compare” “Read More” and “Remove from Compare” Source Text that I had changed. Save and Sync.
8. Now from the Loco Translate Plugins menu, again selected WooCommerce Better Compare. Selected “New language”, “WordPress language: English US”, “Custom: languages/loco/plugins/woocommerce-better-compare-<locale>.po”, then the “Start translating” button. The new .po was created and then on the Edit UI selected “Sync”. I was able to see the original Source text items and made my changes. Worked!
Once I cleaned up my mess and learned I had to edit both plugins, turned out to be fairly easy! Never edit the template!
