I changed the DNS settings for an old site on Friday so it would point the domain to my new hosting account, where I am building a new WordPress site. Although I can see the new site on my Verizon phone and on my town’s public WIFI, I cannot access the site through my home Comcast connection. The public WIFI is painfully slow, so I want work from my Comcast connection, but even when I switch browsers, reload, and clear history I still cannot access the site. It normally takes a DNS change 24-48 hours to propagate throughout the web, but it has been more than four days and the Comcast DNS servers have not picked it up. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Sounds like Comcast haven’t picked up the DNS change. You could try contacting them and asking them about it.

Thanks Esmi. I called them yesterday and was transferred four times, but no one even knew what DNS was. It is probably a question that they are unlikely to get from most customers so they have not trained their reps on it, but it was really frustrating. I gave it another shot this morning and emailed their customer service, but I am not holding my breath.

but no one even knew what DNS was.

I wish I could say that I was surprised by that but sadly I am not. I have vivid memories of my other half trying to explains to an ISP support person on the phone why a Usenet group didn’t have a web address some years ago – whilst I rolled around the room howling with semi-silent laughter.

When you do talk to them again, ask to be transferred to their Level (or Tier) 2 support. Some ISPs even have a 3rd support level. It’s only by reaching these folks that you get to communicate with people who actually know what they are doing – as opposed to reading off a script.
