    Hi There,

I have had these errors always when using Wordfence on a FreeBSD 10.3 server since a few months. After updating WordPress 4.5.1 I figured perhaps it’s time to inquire about the odd error messages at the end of every scan.

If anyone has a suggestion how to get this properly setup, please let me know!
    Thanks in Advance!

  • I also get that error – Any help would be greatly appreciated…

I’m also getting this error, and I know my hosting also runs on FreeBSD.

[Sat May 28 18:17:52.805815 2016] [:error] [pid 37675:tid 34594699264] [client 66.249.65.231:54524] FastCGI: server “/var/run/php-fpm/php56/php-cgi” stderr: PHP message: PHP Warning: dns_get_record(): DNS Query failed in /sites/jacktummers.nl/www/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php on line 1164, referer: https://www.jacktummers.nl/kleurplaten-moeten-hoognodig-gemoderniseerd-worden/

    Hello,
a fix is included in the latest (6.1.8) version of Wordfence. Could you all try upgrading to the latest version and let me know how it goes?

I’m also getting the same error:
“dns_get_record(): DNS Query failed in /sites/bonabonatoys.com/www/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php on line 1164”.

This started to happen since the latest update of wordfence (6.1.8) and only at one of my sites.

    Thanks for reporting that teutabilani,
    are you on FreeBSD too?

Indeed, my hosting runs on freeBSD server.

    Thanks teutabilani,
will look in to this and get back to you when I have some answers.

I have that same error and I have the latest Wordfence 6.1.8.

AH01071: Got error ‘PHP message: PHP Warning: dns_get_record(): DNS Query failed in /data/home/……/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php on line 1164\n’

    Hello,
I have filed a bug for this issue. In case you need to reference this issue in the future our internal case number is FB1935.

I’m also having this error, even after updating:

FastCGI: server “/var/run/php-fpm/php56/php-cgi” stderr: PHP message: PHP Warning: dns_get_record(): DNS Query failed in /sites/jacktummers.nl/www/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php on line 1164

and the pne mentioned before about the dns queries.

My site gets offline for about a second or 5 to 10 with an error message:

    Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

    Hello Jack,
I’m not sure the “dns_get_record” error is related to your site going offline. dns_get_record is generating a warning because it is unable to find the host from a certain IP. This could cause a hostname to be missing somewhere in Wordfence Live Traffic or such but it should not take down your site. We have a fix for dns_get_record error in an upcoming version of Wordfence.

For the “Service Unavailable” I would first check with your host to see what is causing that.

I’m not sure either to be honest :). I’m trying out several things at the moment and will report back here if I find anything that could be related to Wordfence. Thanks.
