I’m using BPS free[cant afford the pro one] for my site security…
Since Pro one is more of a complete sec suite…some question popped in my mind regarding the free one…

    01. Do I need to lock directory browsing from cPanel or has BPS free got me covered ?? what if I lock from cPanel, will it conflict with BPS free???

    02. How I can remove WP version number and version letter from getting into hacker’s hand ???

    03. Is it really necessary to rename example.com/login or example.com/admin for better security…

    04. Does BPS free prevent Hot-linking, protect install.php, readme.html, readme.txt ???

    thank

    1. Directory Password Protection is ok, but we do not use this. If you allow people to post comments on your site and you password protect the wp-admin folder they will not be able to register and post comments on your site.

    2. Complete waste of time – it is not possible to hide the WordPress version or the fact that you have a WordPress site and hackers no longer check the WP version since WP3.0.

    3. No, that is not necessary and is a judgement call you will need to make based on what you allow or do not allow on your site. registering, posting comments, etc.

    4. New HotLink Protection code has been created here: https://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/hotlink-protection-do-not-block-google-bing-or-yahoo/

Yes, BPS automatically protects /wp-admin/install.php and readme.html. WordPress does not have a readme.txt file so I guess this is supposed to protect any readme.txt files in general for some odd reason??? If you would like to protect additional files you can add the additional file names to the BPS .htaccess code.

Additional Brute Force Login Protection code has been created here: https://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/protect-login-page-from-brute-force-login-attacks/
