This may be a dumb question, but do I still need to purchase an SSL from my hosting provider? I just find it odd that everyone would pay for one when they could use this plugin and get one for free.

    Thx

@admindroidturf That depends actually :).. If your hosting server have either cPanel or SSH with root privileges, Our plugin would work like a charm. Even our Pro plugin requires either cPanel or SSH to work. Some managed WordPress hosting plans, shared hosting plans, etc., don’t fulfill any of these two requirements.

    Hi,

My site is hosted with GoDaddy so no cPanel I don’t think. However, I’m able to access the system files through FTP using software like Filezilla.

Let me know if there’s a way I can test.

@admindroidturf FTP doesn’t really help. SSL installation is a server side process and requires either cPanel or SSH for our Pro plugin automation to work.

Anyhow, you do have one possibility i.e., You can generate free SSL certificate with our free plugin, download the generated certificates and send them to your hosting support to install it for your site. Some hosts will help with this but you will need to do this every 90 days as free SSL provided by Let’s Encrypt expires every 90 days.

    Found this.

I have GoDaddy Managed WP Ultimate.
    https://www.godaddy.com/help/enable-ssh-24596
It says SHH included and I have enabled it on my site.

    What’s the next step?
Do I need to install https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

@admindroidturf Oh!. Didn’t knew your site was hosted on Managed WordPress hosting of Godaddy. 3rd party SSL are ultimately not permitted on Godaddy Managed WordPress, the ONLY possible way is to buy SSL from Godaddy itself. We have even refunded several of Pro purchasers due to this reason.

    Oh well
