hello. i just installed this to help eliminate spammers, it’s a fun little plug-in, but unfortunately you don’t need to even do the puzzles to register. i am using this on my bbpress forum registration page only. i am using it in conjunction with another captcha but that one gives an error if left blank and won’t let you proceed without filling it out, but even if that one is deactivated and only this captcha is used i can bypass it completely

    Hi WordProSystems,

Can you let us know what the other CAPTCHA plugin is? Sounds like a conflict. We can confirm you must validate FunCaptcha to register on bbpress forum.

We’ll see if we can resolve the conflict.

    Regards,
    FunCaptcha team

it’s called Captcha. like i said, i’ve deactivated that plug-in to see if it was a conflict and i got the same result. i did a validation step where i had to register and put in 2 keys, is that what you were referring to?

    Hi WordProSystems,

I have done some investigation on this issue to find the cause.

You’re right in that the issue is not the other plugin, the issue here is bbPress uses a custom form which does not use the same CAPTCHA code hooks as the WordPress or Buddypress register forms use (which we fully support both).

We don’t currently have support for bbPress, which will cause it to not appear/get authenticated.

I’ll look into adding bbPress support in our next feature update soon!

    Thanks,
    FunCaptcha team

    WordProSystems,

I’ve done some testing with bbPress, and it all works fine for me – are you using any special registration plugin at all?

Can you send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll see how we can fix this for you.

    Regards!

I have just done an update with fully tested bbPress support, I also added support for bbPress topic and replies to display FunCaptcha if you’d like (option in plugin settings, defaults off.).

This information is very usefully for me. Thanks for this topics.

    Thanks

it’s still not working for me. i updated to the latest version, i deactivated the other captcha i want to use with it (just for an added level of security) and i can still bypass it without doing the puzzles. is there something i need to do?

And could you also let me know your theme?

You mention a bbPress registration page, is it not the standard WordPress registration page? That might be the issue.

    Thanks!

    Found the issue!

Your plugin, “New User Approve” was doing its create new user action before checking for errors from FunCaptcha. This is basically due to a weird way WordPress orders plugin calls, so it didn’t know FunCaptcha was triggering an error (but FunCaptcha still blocked the signup per normal, however this plugin overwrites the normal signup method).

I have issued an update which increases FunCaptchas priority to before this plugin, to make sure it always checks the error code first to make sure it’s solved. Let me know if it works for you – version 0.5.1.

    Thanks!

maybe i don’t have things set up correctly. i’ve updated the plugin, re-activated it and i’m running in to the same original problem. the theme i’m using is Parabola and here is my site (on the forums page, obviously) and when you click Register, that’s where both captchas show up. if they need to be on separate pages, i don’t know how to do that. i truly appreciate your help in helping me find a solution with all this!!!

Ah, it seems neither CAPTCHA is being checked, or any sort of validation at all – clicking register is registering the user, even if you don’t put anything into the fields.

You next best step might be turning off plugins one by one until you see your registration page validating, I’m not sure which plugin at this point might be causing the issue, but it seems to be something conflicting with your theme.

You might even want to temporarily try changing your theme to see if that works (if you can, do it in a dev environment).
