Document does not have a valid rel=canonical

    Hi,

    Yoast Version 20.9
    WordPress 6.2.2

    I upgraded to Yoast Version 20.9 yesterday.
    And published a new post a few hours after that:
    https://digitalcine.fr/4k-bluray-dvd/tests-bluray-4k-ultra-hd/67426-vanilla-sky-en-blu-ray-4k-uhd/

    And now I see this error when testing the URL with Lighthouse: “Document does not have a valid?rel=canonical“

    When checking the source page, I see this:

    <link rel="canonical"  />

    This issue does not show on previous post published prior to upgrading to Yoast Version 20.9.

    Is this a regression?
    Any idea how to fix this?

    Thanks for reaching out regarding your canonical URL. I see it uses the plain permalink of the post. Navigate to WordPress > Settings > Permalinks and Save Changes without making actual changes.

    Next, follow these steps:

    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations‘, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation‘, and ‘Reset Internal link counter‘ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that the specific reset was successful.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your content.

    Please let us know if the reported issue remains after resetting the optimized data.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Issue is solved now and I now see a proper canonical URL in the page source

    <link rel="canonical"  />

    But I had to cancel step 4 “SEO data optimization” because it was completely killing the CPU of my hosting (100% usage of CPU) and the process was stalled.
    Looking at the logs, I saw 400 calls in 5 minutes to this URL:

    wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpseo_tools

    It would be great to have a way to configure this process in order to prevent hammering the CPU.

    I’m glad you to hear the canonical URL issue has been resolved.

    Regarding SEO data optimization, you could use the?WP-CLI commands. This requires access to your server through a terminal service. Your web host may be able to help. If you have a large site, we highly recommend this method.
