I use TP for a file repository. Currently I have each file linked as a hyperlink based on IP address. I was wondering if there is a better way considering I need to move all the to another IP/Computer. I rather not have to edit each table cell to reflect its new location. I want to future proof this change so next time I can just create a “share” and have all links based on a name.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    thanks for your question.

The best way for this change would probably be to do a search/replace in the database, so that all old IPs are replaced with the new ones in all tables (stored in the “wp_posts” table as the “tablepress_table”).

Now, I’m not sure about what you mean with “create a ‘share’ and have all links based on a name”. Can you explain that in more detail?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Thank you!

Currently, each doc is linked like this Here

I want to use a directory name “files” instead of 111.222.333.444

In theory in should be possible

    Hi,

well, if you don’t want to use an IP address, you’ll need to get a domain registered for it, or get a hostname for it in your intranet.
Once you have a domain/hostname instead of an IP, you can of course use that in the links in the tables.

A host name would work as well, but I could end up doing this all over in the future. My thought was a “share” named files on a NAS (network attached Storage) like a USB key. So should I need to move WAMP and WP, I could simply export/import and not change a thing

    Hi,

I see what you are trying to do, but this it not really something that TablePress can help you with. In TablePress, you’ll have to add the final links/URLs, regardless of how you got them or where they target to.

The best choice would probably be a domain, as shares on a NAS are usually not accessible from other computers on the internet (i.e. outside of the intranet).

    Regards,
    Tobias
