    It’s more a case of the plugin pre-dates the introduction of short codes rather than introducing an alternative.

    I agree the docs are a little lacking, perhaps I can upgrade these a little when I release the next version.

    Feature wise you do seem to have found most of them… the main extras that you migth like to explore are:

    {CALENDAR;1,2} – Only shows events on the fully calendar from the numbered categories
    {UPCOMING_EVENTS} – Shows a list of upcoming events
    {TODAYS_EVENTS} – Shows a list of today’s events
    {MINICAL} – Shows a small version of calendar with single mouse overs for each day

    The last 3 options also support category filtering as per the CALENDAR tag. In addition the last 3 options are available as widgets.
