Does adding a link to original content invalidates the translation?

    Hi,
    I was wondering if simply hyperlinking a word or sentence in a post or page in the default language (EN), invalidates the entire translation (ex: FR)?

    I read here that “If you change a string in the default language, the translation of that string […] will no longer be displayed at the front end level.”
    Does this also apply to adding a hyperlink/url to a word or sentence? Does it invalidate only the paragraph where the change is made or does it invalidate the entire post/page? If this is the case, a solution would be welcome to prevent that from happening.

    Since I’m using link whisper that automatically inserts links in the content, I can’t afford to have months of translation work lost like that.

    Ok, so I’ve conducted a few tests, and indeed adding a hyperlink in the original text simply invalidates the entire sentence in the translated text. So we now have some mixed languages (French and English) in the paragraph where the hyperlink was inserted.

    Also, when manually editing the text of the translation, and saving it, no changes are saved. So I have an article in which there’s a mix of two languages, and I can’t edit from the front end (need to edit tables in phpmy admin, which is absolutely absurd!!).

    I just can’t believe that in 2022 you haven’t been able to address basic issues like the one described above and that Translatepress does not properly handle hyperlinks/URLs in translation (yes, text containing hyperlinks ends up being completely messed up in the translation).

    I really expected more from Translatepress. You just stopped half-way from making a good translating solution for wordpress. As it is, Translatepress is unusable.

    Hi,

    Any change on the original word/sentence, including adding hyperlink will invalidate the translation of that string.
    As a workaround you can the words you know that will contain hyperlinks with <span></span> tags in order to isolate that word and translate the rest of the paragraph separately. When you will add a link back to that isolated work, you will have to only translate that word.

    Any change of the original string will invalidate the front-end translation as they are directional.
    This is how our plugin works because we save each translation in the database. Every string has a corresponding translation. If you change the original string, basically, you create a new string that will need to be translated.
