• Hello,

I’m really new to WordPress and am wondering about entries indexing in the Google Blogroll.

Currently I am posting on Livejournal and my posts are indexed by Google Blogroll within half an hour and usually show up in Google Blog Alerts.

Doe this usually happen on WordPress when using www.ads-software.com and having a theme that looks like a website? Is it considered a blog still, or does Google treat it like a website?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • Google doesn’t know whether your site looks like a blog or a website. It’s bots can only scan the textual content that is on your site — that’s it. I’m not familiar with google blogroll but from normal internet use experience I can say that I always find blogs and regular websites jumbled together in google search results. If your blog is well enough optimized and targets certain keywords then it’s going to show up before a regular looking website and vice versa, it’s all about the content.

I just went through this for a client, and it took several days to get on google’s radar and then almost a week to get re-evaluated after adding meta data terms, etc. I would go through google’s webmaster section and submit your site that way if you are in a rush. Also, there are some good wordpress plugins that create and submit sitemaps for you automatically.

    Thanks for the tips!

I’m not in any real rush, since I’m in the early stages on putting my WP site together, but I will look into those sitemap plugins.

My WP site will be primarily a blog, with frequent, probably daily, entries, and some static category pages. So I want Google to see it as a blog, with posts showing up in Google Blog Alerts for those who have signed up with relevant keywords. I get a lot of traffic on my LJ from these.

I’ve noticed that for those posting on a similar topic on WP sites, their entries don’t show up on Google Alerts. I don’t know if it’s a choice or that Google doesn’t index these updates as blog updates.
