Hi, is this plugin maintained and is it working?

I would like to use osm instead of google maps for WPJM – would this plugin make it possible to do that?

    Best regards,

    Flamuren

    Hello,

    Yes, it should work.

It is just that it is relatively new, so you might have some wishes left. I used it for a project that I am not involved in anymore. I do plan to maintain the plugin.

That is great news and glad you are active. Thanks for replying ??

It sounds like a good plugin. Can I just ask a specific user case:

Can it replace google API in WPJM to get location meta data for new jobs?

I don’t think there is integration for that.

This plugin simply saves longitude and latitude in a meta field. I’m not sure if it is feasible to save that from a Google API. Can you point me where in the code that is done?

If your plugin saves longitude nad latitude in Meta field = this is what I am looking for ??

I want to replace google for this: https://wpjobmanager.com/document/geocoding-with-googles-maps-api/

Would that be possible with this plugin? ??

Hi, I think we talk about the same thing ??

When adding a Job, there is a map where you can add a location by adding a pin. That location will be saved with the job.

When you view a job, you can view a map where a pin at that location is shown.

I am sure if you would use the Google Maps API there will also be longitude and latitude saved, but those will be meta fields with a different name. So the integration with Google is not there. Also, there is no integration with Google Search.

It might be easiest if you just test the plugin out, preferably in a test install. Install all plugins, add a job, edit a job, view a job.

Thank you for your kind replies and time ??

I installed the plugin to test and also OSM plugin as described. I tried it but I think I might have misunderstood the concept. The new jobs dont get any geo location. Do I manually have to generate that for each new job or should it happen automatically when a new job is published as with google API+WPJM? ??

On this page I also added the map shortcode to display alla posts: https://www.jobbsok.nu/lediga-jobb/lediga-jobb-kartvy/

Just some error messages. I must have missed something perhaps? (no job post has geolocation fields in the meta for example)

That is correct, there is no support included for Google Maps.

What could be added is support for this geocoding data and update it in the OSM meta field. I can look into this. I could hook into the job_manager_geolocation_get_location_data filter for this.

If you manage to fix that I am happy to be the first to try it for you ????

    Hi,
Could you test the new version at:
    https://codeberg.org/cyclotouriste/integrate-osm-with-wp-job-manager

It has 2 actions for Google Maps API, where it updates the latitude and longitude from Google Maps. It will ignore what was sent in through the form for OSM. Please be aware that it still requires paid access to Google Maps.

Is this what you expected to do?

Hi Marcel, I had to change my plans on that website. I am not using maps at all atm I am sorry to say.

I was however looking for OSM to fill in latitude and logitude for new job listings. Today WPJM has google API automatically built in, but that costs per API call. I was trying to get a free version of something similar.

But many thanks for your efforts and time. Thank you ??

No problem, it’s not unexpected ??
